EV Motor, Power, and Performance
All Toyota bZ4X trims come standard with front-wheel drive powered by a single 201-horsepower motor. An all-wheel drive option powered by two motors with a combined 215 horsepower is available. Standard drive modes include Eco, Normal, and Snow drive modes. The XLE Nightshade all-wheel drive trim also includes X-MODE, with Snow/Dirt, Deep Snow/Mud, and Grip Control drive modes.
The bZ4X offers perky acceleration in both the front-wheel and all-wheel versions. The SUV absorbs bumps well and provides a very smooth ride with well-weighted steering.
Range and Charging
The Toyota bZ4X has a 63.4 kWh battery pack for the front-wheel drive version and a 65.5 kWh battery pack for the dual-motor all-wheel drive version. The EPA-estimated range for the front-wheel drive XLE is 252 miles. The EPA-estimated range for the front-wheel drive XLE Limited is 236 miles, while the FWD Nightshade’s estimated range is 222 miles.
The bZ4X can be charged using a standard 120V household outlet, a 240V Level 2 outlet, or DC Fast Charging. Charging with a Level 2 outlet will fully charge the bZ4X overnight. There are over 76,000 public charging stations nationwide available for charging the bZ4X. Additionally, owners can opt for a year of free charging at EVgo locations.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
The Toyota bZ4X sports a very spacious interior with a dashboard that has a 7.0-inch digital gauge cluster and a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen. The center console features standard wireless phone charging with open storage beneath. The cargo volume behind the rear seats is 27.7 cubic feet, which expands to 56.9 cubic feet with the seats folded.
Infotainment and Connectivity
The center of the bZ4X’s infotainment system is a 12.3-inch multimedia touchscreen, which comes standard with wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a SiriusXM three-month trial. An onboard Wi-Fi hotspot, cloud-based connectivity, and wireless smartphone charging are all standard. A six-speaker sound system is standard with an option to upgrade to a JBL 9-speaker Premium Audio system with a subwoofer in the Limited trim.
Safety
The Toyota bZ4X comes with a suite of standard driver-assist safety features. These include adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection.
